Congratulations to Okehampton Running Club on their tenth anniversary. Formed in February 2009, ORC now has over 100 members of all abilities and all ages who share one thing – a love of running!
Gathering after this Tuesday’s runs, club members enjoyed a celebratory get together at OCRA Pavilion; possibly the only party where the dress code for the majority of attendees included hi-vis vests and jackets. 😄
Okehampton Running Club (ORC) has over 100 members of all abilities and all ages who share one thing – a love of running!
Club nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are five groups for different abilities running each night, so there should be one to suit you. Each group is taken out by a qualified leader to help guide you in your training.
Tuesday nights are steady runs, sometimes on road, sometimes through the woods and tracks. In the winter, we do head torch runs going out through the country lanes. In the summer, we have a separate group that meets up on moor, going fully off-road.
Thursday nights are technical sessions, aiming to build up stamina and speed. We do sprints, and distance loops, as well as hill reps and more.

The OCRA Music Project runs every Tuesday at the Pavilion in the Park from 2pm. The music project is mainly led by local music leader Kelly Young.
The Bands Project is currently supported by Devon Music Hub for young people up to 25 years old. The project started in 2014 with the aim of helping young people learn instruments, build on existing musical skills and act as a platform for promotion and opportunities. The project encourages the participants to be as independent and proactive as possible.
Young people involved in the project have many opportunities, including:
Individual singing, guitar, bass and drum lessons
Gig slots at the Exeter Phoenix, the Devon County Show, Okehampton Singers concerts, Morton Music Day, OCRA Sports Festival, Okehampton Acoustic Club
Access to recording and rehearsal equipment and rehearsal space
The teaching of the project has been rating as ‘excellent’ by Devon Education Music Hub.
Some quotes from our young people:
“I love this project. This is my favourite part of the week”
“Music has given me so much confidence and I feel better about myself’
The project is always looking to help young musicians who want to be in an ensemble. Please contact Kelly for more information on 07932241623 or firstname.lastname@example.org
