West Devon Teams bring back medals from County Games

Image: St Andrew's XC squads county games 2019_1024_768 8 teams from West Devon Primary Schools took part in the cross country event at the School Winter Games County Finals, held at Paignton on Thursday 28th March.

St Andrew’s year 3/4 & 5/6 boys, Whitchurch 3/4 girls & Tavistock 5/6 girls had won through to the County finals by winning the West Devon event on the 7th March.

There were 18 teams and approx. 90 runners from all over Devon in each race. A maximum of 6 runners raced for a team with the first 4 finishers counting for results.

Image: Whitchurch girls XC winning team 2019_752_500Year 3/4 Girls raced first. Nell (2nd), Florence (5th), Tamzin (16th) and Holly (39th) were the counted scores and gave the Whitchurch girls 1st place and the gold medals.

St Andrew’s boys, Henry B (23rd), Lukas (24th), Alistair (57th) and William (58th) were 10th in the year 3/4 Boys race.

Image: Tavistock Girls XC at School Games 2019_1024_768Tavistock 5/6 Girls were placed 5th with great runs from Niamh 20th, Olivia 21st, Jenna 24th and Miley 38th.

It was the turn of St Andrew’s 5/6 Boys to run next and they did so in style – Rory was 4th back, Sam 5th, Sebastian 15th and Ben 18th. This was enough to win the team event and receive the gold medals.

Image: Dartmoor Federation at the county games_1024_765After lunch the Festival Competition was held. West Devon was represented by St Andrew’s year 3/4 & 5/6 boys again and by the Dartmoor Federation Schools Girls at 3/4 and 5/6.

Neve 8th, Kelsey 11th, Skyla 20th and Ivy 32nd of the Dartmoor Federation were 5th in their race.

Henry D 8th, Freddie 10th, Brealen 11th and Charlie 16th came 3rd and received bronze medals.

The year 5/6 girls of Dartmoor Federation – Alice (1st), Abi (9th), Ayla (13th) & Bethan (15th) won team gold.

Image: Official St Andrew's XC winners photo 2019Next it was the 4th Boys team from St Andrew’s to run. George 7th, Noah 8th, Joe 9th and Oliver 10th came in 2nd for the silver medals.

It was a great day for West Devon and Mhairi McCall of OCRA, who assisted with the running of the Cross Country event on the day, went home knowing that the all the cross country races she had organised for the schools and the Tavy13 Primary Challenge runs were definitely paying off!
