South Tawton’s tag rugby festival provides a great day of sport

Image: Oke Tag Rugby Yr5-6 April 2019The annual Years 4, 5 and 6 tag rugby festival, hosted by South Tawton Primary school and held at South Zeal Recreation Park, had 17 entries this year from eight schools.

South Tawton, North Tawton, Bridestowe, Chagford, Northlew, Okehampton, Hatherleigh and Exbourne were represented.

The pool stages were held in the morning, with South Tawton, North Tawton, Chagford and Okehampton progressing to the cup competition in the afternoon. Okehampton beat North Tawton and Chagford beat South Tawton to set up a very exciting and close final between Chagford and Okehampton.

The game ended in a draw at the end of playing time which had to be extended until a ‘golden’ try was scored.

It was Chagford who achieved this and took the cup. Okehampton, South Tawton, North Tawton represented the Okehampton area schools in the West Devon finals against Tavistock, Whitchurch, Bere Alston and Lamerton on Tuesday (April 2).

Exbourne won the trophy and Bridestowe the shield.
