British NDP titles for OCRA Flyers – July 2018

image: NDP Finals 2018OCRA Flyers trampolinists have secured two British NDP titles at the individual trampoline, DMT and tumbling NDP finals, held at the Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham.

Owen Pitman and Imogen Spooncer qualified for the national NDP finals at the regional team finals, a national event held at the Birmingham Arena in June, where Owen secured two individual gold medals in trampoline and double mini trampoline, and Imogen won a bronze medal in DMT. Both were representing the South West.

The top eight from the regional team finals qualify to compete at the NDP finals in Nottingham for a British NDP title in their category.

The Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham, is an ice arena that was adapted for the event. The competition spans two days, with orientation training the evening before each day of competition for gymnasts to train on the competition equipment. On the Saturday, Owen competed two top-scoring routines on trampoline, improving on both his execution and HD scores from Birmingham, to win the British NDP4 Men’s 13+ trampoline title.

On the following day, he repeated his top level performance on the DMT, with four quality passes and perfect landings to win the British NDP1 Men’s 13+ DMT title. Imogen Spooncer also achieved top scores on DMT in the NDP1 Women’s 13+ event to achieve 4th place.

OCRA Flyers head coach, Vicki Pritchard, said: ‘This is a great end to OCRA Flyers’ first full season of British Gymnastics competitions. We are continuing to work on training higher difficulty skills, ready for next season’s regional qualifier in October. This year’s achievements would not have been possible without funding for new equipment from Sport England, the Inner Wheel of Okehampton, the Rotary Club of Okehampton, the Manor House Hotel, and Okehampton United Charities, so we would like to thank them all for their support’.

To see photos and videos of OCRA gymnasts at the Barclaycard Arena, Motorpoint Arena and other competitions this season, or to find or more about the club, go to http://gymandtrampolineclub.ocrasport.org.uk/ or visit OCRA on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ocrasport/.

The club is now raising money for two more trampolines, end decks, mats and an inflatable pit to give children, young people and adults more opportunities to take part and develop in gym and trampolining. If any local businesses would like to sponsor the club, or anyone would like to make a donation towards new equipment, OCRA would be very grateful if you could contact Vicki Pritchard at vicki@ocrasport.org.uk.
